Overwhelmed by Blogging? 6 Tips to Find Freedom!
March 9, 2009 by Cassandra Rae · View Comments
I work with a lot of bloggers and one of the biggest things that stops them from posting as much as they would like to is simply the pressure to post every day. Yes, it’s true. Daily posts are best. But, not if the expectation to post daily keeps you from posting at all! Furthermore, what if they are daily crappy posts? That doesn’t serve anyone does it? So here’s what I suggest:
Create a Freedom Structure
What’s that? Well, for starters it’s one of the Simply Fearless Success Principles that are taught in our 8 week program. But, here’s a quick overview…
A Freedom Structure is just enough external guidance to give you internal freedom. What does that mean? It means you:
- Consider your options
- Make a commitment
- Give yourself room to learn
The key is that you make a commitment that:
- Matches your intention
- Fits in your schedule
- Frees you from beating yourself up
- Does NOT overwhelm you
- You feel good about it
So here are a few questions to get you started in creating your very own Freedom Structure and be honest because only you are reading the answers:
- How long does it take you to write a single post?
- How much time can you invest in your schedule each day?
- What is your overall intention with your blog?
- How does your frequency of posting align with your intention?
And here are a few suggestions:
- Limit your blogging time to 15-30 minutes each day
- Allow yourself to free-write knowing that you get to edit before you publish
- Write 5-7 posts at one time and schedule them to publish daily over the next week
- Use things you’ve already written in your personal journal
- Quote another blog (including a link of course!) and publish your comments as a blog post – this one’s great if you are having trouble coming up with topics. Oh! You can even use other blogs from within your industry to show your readers why you are different and unique.
- Write multi-part posts so that you can stop writing for today and pick up tomorrow where you left off – this is also a great way to get people to subscribe to your blog so that they will be automatically notified of the next installment.
Feel free to post your suggestions, experience, and ideas. We all benefit when you share!
