Video: Are You a Control Freak Like Me?

November 22, 2010 by Cassandra Rae · View Comments

Do you ever find yourself struggling with control issues?  Yeah, me too.  I often find myself feeling ping-pong’d in between trying to take full control and letting go of all control.  Neither place feels good.  And usually the behaviors that go with those two extremes don’t serve me or the people I’m relating with.  So the other day I had this brilliant insight (thank you Universe!) and recorded this video.  So take a 5 minute break, sit back, relax, and prepare to empower your relationship with control!

So what do you think?  Is it possible?  How might it work for you?  Post or email me your thoughts, arguments, complaints, experiences, etc.  This topic fascinates me and I’d love to hear from you.

Great blog Cassandra! I am a self-confessed control freak who can also be very impatient. But over the years I have by choice, or sometimes by force (life circumstances totally out of my control) learned how to tame the controlling compulsions I have and the stress that can bring into my life.

One way of thinking that has served me well is to think of my entire life as an orchestra, with each component, whether it be an activity or relationship, as one of its sections. Through different phases of my life I’ve consciously chosen to allow some parts (or sections) to carry the overall symphony. Some years it was my social, some years it has been my career, when I had just gotten engaged and married it was my romantic love relationship, currently I am discovering my true calling in life.

Thinking this way helps me to release the anxiety and fear that a) I have to be focusing on EVERYTHING all at once and 2) reminds me in the end that my life will end up being a score of beautiful music… its all about the timing, and being open to, as you so well point out, the universe :)

    Love ya!

Yes!! Perfect timing. I just had that moment” “WTH? Why would my boss do that?” Flash of anger, slow slide into bitterness…But it’s not solving anything. I love your video. I love the power and control it brought me. TY!

Thanks you so much, Jody, for sharing your views on control! I *LOVE* your symphony :~)

Woohoo! Isn’t it awesome to go from frustrated to powerful in a matter of moments? Rock on, Shannon!

You are such a great, natural speaker, Cassandra! I don’t know how you talk to a video cam as if you’re conversing with us individually and simultaneously manage to avoid filler words. I “ummm”ed and “so”ed my way through my first test workshop. I wouldn’t say I’m a control freak, but your message about taking control of your thoughts, dreams and feelings definitely works for me. :-)

Aw shucks…thanks Kate! I love video and I do feel like I’m speaking to you individually when I’m recording.

Congratulations on your first workshop! I can’t wait to hear more about it on one of our Champagne Friday Skype chats. I have the best friends!
