What happens in a Simply Fearless coaching session?

Are you waiting for more clients to show up? Maybe you have all the things you think are necessary for running a business. You have a website, blog, twitter, and facebook page. Maybe you’re even giving away a freebie and writing a newsletter. But, you just aren’t going anywhere fast. Bugger!

One of the major stumbling blocks is because business owners aren’t willing to put themselves out there. We expect people to put themselves out there by hiring us, but we want them to take that first step. I mean, we’re all set up and ready for them so why not, right? But, here’s the rub:

DOING ALL THE ‘RIGHT’ THINGS DOESN’T MEAN YOU ARE PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE

Think about it. How often do you downplay your awesomeness? How much of your true self are you sharing? And how often are you inviting people to hire you?

So today I am putting myself out there by letting you know what we do in a complimentary coaching session. We have the best time together and I am continually amazed at how much can happen in a half an hour. Here’s what happens:

We open with a centering exercise that brings us into the coaching space ~ a safe place for you to come out of your shell, share your true self, and totally rock it out!
We coach around a topic of your choice ~ what’s weighing on your heart? What might be holding you back? Where would you like to receive more success?
While we are coaching I am taking notes ~ my clients love my notes and to be quite frank with you, so do I! I write down all the cool stuff we discover. I draw pictures. I capture the essence of our time together on paper and after our session I email you a copy. It’s like a souvenir of our time together!
We close with a practice assignment ~ something you promise to do during the next week to keep you moving towards your short-term goals and life-long dreams. This is where the benefit of our time together really impacts your life, your business and your success.

We enjoyed our very first Simply Fearless Brainstorming Session this past Monday and it was phenomenal! My favorite part was watching creative inspiration unfold right on the call. Everyone contributed amazing ideas and it was beautiful to experience people feeling better in the moment. What power!

We brainstormed for 2 different peeps about:

How to smooth out the business flow in a one-woman-business, and
How to deal with important peeps in your life who don’t get your Big Dreams.

Ellie with Real Joy Happens took copious notes & you can read all of our ideas by joining the FB group and checking out the Discussions tab.

One of the brilliant suggestions that came up during our time together was by my Soul Sister Sandi. She suggested that you bring something tangible like a photo into your space that evokes a feeling of success and optimism. I *LOVE* this idea. It came up when Elva was talking about wanting to reconnect with the enthusiasm and hope she felt when she first launched her business BEFORE she had any success whatsoever. Do you remember how that felt? You can connect with those feelings anytime you want.

So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to put my inspiring item {which is a book I love} right next to my computer. At least 2 times per day I am going to stop, pick up the book, and feel the hope, joy, and confidence I feel when I read this book. The message in this book makes me feel like I can do anything, be anyone, and have anything I want. And isn’t that a beautiful space to create from?!

If you also want to feel better about where you’re at and where are headed, then bring something into your daily line of sight that inspires you and makes you feel courageous, confident, and successful. Intentionally connect with those feelings at least twice a day for a couple of minutes. All you have to do is pause, focus on your inspiring item, and allow those good feelings to flow. Don’t make this process hard, long, or full of pressure. Simply allow yourself to be inspired.

Over the past few weeks a lot of doubt has surfaced for me. There’s been moments when I wonder what I’m doing and why. I’ve questioned my Calling, my business, and even my motivations.

It hasn’t been fun. And for the most part, I’ve been pushing against the feelings not wanting to feel them. Until yesterday when I met with my coach.

She asked me a question and the thin veil that was holding the emotions back was instantly swept aside by a river of tears. This time I simply let them flow. I felt them come up and instead of trying to hide them, hold them back, or cover them up I just let them follow their own course.

As the emotion was flowing through me, I described how I felt and shared the thoughts running through my mind without judging and filtering them. With my coach’s support I reconnected with a part of me that feels undeserving of the time, energy, and money to follow my Calling and develop my business. She feels like she must prove herself, her worth, and why it’s okay for her to be alive. Yup, she’s even trying to justify her own existence.

You know, this process was heart wrenching and I certainly didn’t want to go through it. But, now that I have, I feel so much better and lighter. Simply by acknowledging her and how she felt, I’ve already begun to move past the doubt and confusion. In fact, I went on to lead one of my best group coaching sessions ever.

I’m so grateful for reconnecting with this part of me because I know that in order to move towards the success I desire I must embrace, accept, and love her. If I don’t, then there will always be a part of me trying to prove myself to my current and future clients. Yeah, that doesn’t serve anyone.

In fact, trying to prove yourself keeps you disconnected and unavailable to experience the beauty of the moment. It’s so much more powerful to simply show up, just as you are, and share your wisdom, talents, and experience. When you do, everyone benefits.

Are you afraid to be bold?

I just saw Drew Barrymore in a Cover Girl commercial and it hit me:

Successful people aren’t afraid to be bold.

Boy, inspiration can hit at any time, can’t it?! And it’s got me thinking…what does it mean to be bold? So I looked it up in Dictionary.com and I like what I see. Bold is…

not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring: a bold hero.
not hesitating to break the rules of propriety; forward; impudent: He apologized for being so bold as to speak to the emperor.
necessitating courage and daring; challenging: a bold adventure.
beyond the usual limits of conventional thought or action; imaginative: Einstein was a bold mathematician. a difficult problem needing a bold answer.
striking or conspicuous to the eye; flashy; showy: a bold pattern.

I hope this definition fires you up, because your Calling requires you to be bold. You must be courageous and daring. You must not hesitate to break the rules. Your inevitable success is asking you to break the rules. So you get to let go of all of those “have to’s” and “supposed to’s” because bold is to do your own thing regardless of what others are doing. You must dare to be yourself and share your message no matter how far beyond the conventional thought it goes. And to top it all off, you get to be showy.

Wow. That’s hot! And bold.

From Fear to Fun

As I spoke to our favourite Coach Cassandra Rae on the phone a couple days – on a surprise and totally out-of-the-blue phonecall – I was reminded once again of how fun and energizing fearlessness can be !!

Mind you, fearlessness is no stranger to me. It’s just that it keeps amazing me over and over with its many faces.

A late-night phonecall

I could for instance tell you the story leading to that phonecall to Coach Cassandra. You see, I was up late that night and checking her website where I found out she had been feeling a bit down. It took me only an instant to realize that her phone number was displayed right there and it would be so much fun to just give her a call to check on her!

So I gathered my late-night courage and dialed the number to call someone I’d only been communicating via twitter untill now! You can imagine there was some fear there. Not enough to stop me though! And in the end the phonecall was totally worth it and empowering. Let’s see who I’ll be calling next…

I could also tell you the story of how I started my training in life coaching back in february 2009…

And a trip to California

Back in february 2009 I was going through an extremely challenging and transformative time. In december of 2008 I had decided to pack my stuff and take a break from the nasty European winter to go enjoy the warm rays of the California sun.

Having recently finished an 8 year training in psychology I had looked for a job for months on end with little result. To tell you the truth I wasn’t even sure I wanted a job in psychology anymore. My health, my personal life and my sanity were also very shaky.

I was deeply confused and in California to find something that would give me Meaning and Aliveness again!

What happened is I finally decided to trust my intuition and gave myself permission to make as many mistakes as it took to get where I wanted. Luckily it didn’t take long (though it actually felt veeeeeeeeeeeery long) till I found a fabulous life coach and with it, a recommendation for a great life coaching training.

Here my friend, is where fearlessness comes in !

After what seemed like another eternity I decided to gather up my courage and sign up for the training. It felt like the biggest leap of faith ever … and that’s because I somehow knew something big was going to happen for me. It seemed like I was finally getting somewhere. Whew.

Fast forward to the night before the training started. I hardly slept. I was up for hours, nervous and tense, fighting my demons and loosing my sanity even more than I already had. Nothing helped. I just lay there exhausted and shaky waiting for sleep to come.

With the distance of hindsight I can say all the confusion and insomnia was totally worth it. I was just committed to push through and get what I had signed up for. Not once did I regret my decision to pursue the training.

And stepping into my own fearlessness made it so powerful and liberating !

And the story goes on

What I discovered and keep discovering through these stories of fearlessness is that it has so many faces. Fearlessness can be fun ! It can be energizing ! It can be powerful ! Or liberating ! Even life changing.

Each fearless act reveals a bit more of the fantastic woman that you already are. There is truly no better gift you can give yourself than doing one fearless act a day !

Are you sharing your message?

So I just saw an interview on The View from the Bay with the author of ADD MORE ing TO YOUR LIFE: A Hip Guide to Happiness and it so triggered me. You see, the author was talking about receiving and that’s such a big part of my message. I couldn’t believe that she was delivering my message and on tellie nonetheless. What the hell?!

But, in the end, it was perfect because it was just the opening I needed for my Soul to deliver this message:

If you don’t share your message, then it will upset you when you see bits and pieces of it out there in other people. As it should. Because you are meant to share your message. Yes, it’s scary to put it out there, but what’s the alternative? Bitterness? Frustration? Failure? Cassandra, it’s time to put your stake in the ground. Stand tall for who you are, what you’re about, and share your message boldly. You are criticizing it to death and that doesn’t benefit anyone.

Oy! It’s true. I’ve been hopping in and out of that space where I fully claim, declare, and share who I really am. There’s so much of me that I’m holding back and I know it’s time to let go.

This reminds me of my 2010 theme:

Faith and Focus

It is time to trust my Soul, trust in the process, and know that my inevitable success is already on its way. I am ready to harness the power of focus.

I claim it.

I believe in it.

I am open to receive it.

Oh the dreaded sales pitch!

Oh my gosh I had the most amazing and scary experience this week. I role-played the “sales pitch convo.” My coach acted as if she was a potential client and I got to share about my upcoming program with her. I was so scared, but I didn’t have that long to think about the fear. The idea simply came up in the session and one second I’m sharing my process and the next I’m talking to a potential client.

And isn’t that how it goes in life too? You strike up a conversation with someone at a party or at the book store and all of a sudden you realize you are talking to the perfect candidate for your product or service. Here’s the opportunity. Do you take it? What do you say? How do you talk about it without being pushy?

Yeah, it was one of those moments.

And it was fabulous!

I learned that when I don’t have the time to over-think it I actually know what to say. I got to experience my own joy, excitement, and energy around the topic of Calling. It was amazing. Yes, there were parts that were fuzzy – as my coach was kind enough to tell me honestly and gently – but, overall the experienced showed me that I’m on the right track. I actually know what I’m talking about. What a relief!

I’m so grateful for my coach who gave me this opportunity to stretch my comfort zone and practice sharing my message with potential clients. Now I feel more sure of myself even though I don’t have all the pieces in place yet. Woohoo!

Are you seeking clarity too?

Currently I am taking the Essential Ernest Holmes class at the San Jose Center for Spiritual Living my spiritual home. This past week I read this quote in our workbook:

“What we seek is seeking us.”

Yowza! I’ve been saying this a lot lately about your ideal client. You are seeking them and they are also seeking you – even though they might not know it consciously. They are calling you to share your message in order to open a new door of possibility for them. Well, for both of you really.

So today while I was sitting quietly eating my lunch alone it hit me:

“I’m seeking clarity, which means that clarity is seeking me!”

Oh how comforting this idea is and it applies to my life on so many levels. You see, my daughter just moved to her dad’s house 60 miles away. Literally. She just left moments ago and one of the things I’m doing to nurture myself through it is to write this blog post and share it with you. I have no idea if making the move was the “right” thing to do. But, I do know it was the best decision considering the facts, circumstances, and recent past. Here we are just moments before her departure:

I’m also running my very first Simply Fearless Fempreneur Group {so excited!} and I’m writing our workbook as I go. There are times when I doubt, question, or over-edit the content, direction, and lay-out. But, I do know I am creating something {both a workbook and a community} that is central to who I am, what I’m all about, and my calling.

Plus, I am working with a product coach and creating brand new products for my website, which is in the process of being redesigned. Wow! I am doing so much right now. I hadn’t really realized it until I was typing it all out.

Anyhow, all of these happenings require a tremendous amount of decisions to be made relatively quick and money to be invested. So yeah, I’m seeking big doses of clarity. I’m so glad that it’s also seeking me. In fact, I know it’s already on its way. It’s a good thing because…

I am open.

I am ready to receive.

And to rock it out!
